NORMA Live from Taormina

Tuesday, July 10th, 9:30 pm

While during the summer the number of movies in cinemas usually decreases, the exclusive events scheduled in Microcinema’s “Opera al cinema” (Opera in Cinema) review, on the contrary, increase: indeed, in this part of the year, many quality operas from all over the world are screened.August is traditionally associated with the historical Salzburg Festival (La Bohème and The Magic Flute will be broadcast), but July will be no less. Taormina's Teatro Antico, with its unique natural setting with stunning views of Ionian Sea and Mount Etna, will bring to limelight its season of Italian opera symphony, internationally highly valued. From this festival, Norma by Vincenzo Bellini, conducted by Giuliano Carella and starring Gregory Kunde, Dario Russo and Daniela Dessi, will be screened in high-definition digital format, live via satellite on July 10th. Conducted by Enrico Castiglione with a strong visual (if not even cinematographic) style, the opera stages the impossible love between Norma, the priestess daughter of the head of Druids, and Pollione, the Pro-Consul of Gauls occupied by the Roman Empire.
